This was 2005 the salon after we were back from the Caribbean. The mirror was acquired in St. John USVI, also the colorful Ghecko. The table was a rough idea to allow it to fold up around the mast rather than fold into the floor where we were always catching a toe on it. You can see the stbd. Qberth cushion which I had slid further into the salon by sawing away the bulhead. It made a nice seat but I later changed it back to provide space for A/C unit originally located in the fwd area, which was a “wet” area as I assumed water would get in there at sea through an open hatch. E. was growing herbs in the bow. We had painted the fwd. compartment in Virgin Gorda. In those days we were running household lighting from the inverter. The fridge was a solid state cooling plate which couldn’t keep the box below 50 deg F. I spent a lot of time insulating the compartment.

CUSTOM 3/4T - 33 FT

There was actually 18 feet of living space from the foot end of the Q Berth to the heads up fwd. The heads are beyond the bulkhead, no separate enclosure, and well ventilated by a huge man-hatch overhead. SInce we anchored always off the stern, any smell was wafted out the forward hatch, and not into the living area like many boats. The heads was a favorite place to sit at sea going downwind as it was light and airy and a great place to read. Not having a separate compartment saved at least a foot of longitudinal space. ANd not having a sit down chart table saved another three feet. The chart table swings down from the starboard cabinetry. It is supported by the shelf on the white bulhead and by the sring on the aft end. It is a huge workspace for big charts. I stand up to do charting and lean against the mast in a seaway. Of course today all the charting is done on the computer while seated next to the bookcase. The chart table is just a back up in the event that all communications are lost, and I have to switch to using a sextant.
