Chart Table

This is the chart table as it was in 2003. This is a big surface for a 33 foot boat. Yet takes up no space when folded.

The chart table folds against the wall. I used a Powerbook 1400 for charting and decoding weather charts from the radio. I had all Brooks and Gatehouse instruments, including an off- course DR computer using a 400Hz selsyn compass (top left) which cost almost $7,000 (in 2015$) I also had a satellite telephone with an 18” diameter gimballed Dome antenna, which was a bargain at $5,000 in 1999. With that we could call home and I could get internet access for mail and to download weather charts. Chart table folds up against the cabinetry, so doesn’t take up space in port/anchorage.

This is the chart table when built. It was hard to sit at it as there was no leg space. This space became a book case (version 1.) The original table folded down around the mast and the leg laid in the floor boards and we were always tripping on the edge, so I redesigned the table to fold upwards around the mast. Bookcase version 2 (final) inset right.
