Arnold Newman - Pablo Picasso, Cannes 1956

Color palette

Last night I made this picture of Magnolia gardens. Today I was surprised to see that Arnold Newman had made a picture of Picasso using a very similar color palette.

Color Green

Green is a difficult color. It produces negative feelings in the viewer. Master impressionist artists avoided green as they couldn’t get people to buy pictures with a lot of green in them. Even in summer they painted the trees, leaves, and fields with fall colors.

Here there is very little green. The river is mostly white, the leaves have yellow and red in them. This makes a pleasing picture.
